![]() At Flickr I get unlimited uploads and storage for the same price as a 7GB annual limit on Picasa, though just like Gmail, that limit grows periodically as Google allots more space for accounts without extra charge. The price, however, is steep by comparison to Flickr. The Slideshow is full screen and very nice. The community aspect is nearly non-existent with Picasa, as it is intended for direct sharing of photos, though it does allow tagging and captioning, and you can search across an expanding user database of public photos. I also have a paid PicasaWeb account for photos that I need to share with some people and want to keep them separated from my Flickr account. My Flickr account is more than two years old and is where my main stuff is done. But I like the way Picasa works with gmail as for as download or view options of photos within the email.īut unless you know everything about photography, the advice you can find here at Flickr is worth the price of admission. Just the free version of Picasa for family, which will allow me extra versatility with my family and friend options in Flickr. What about building a local database for your photos in order to preserve them for posterity? Any web based service might stop at any time, and your photos might be gone, especially in respect to the future - if the webspace is not paid for, the photos will be gone sooner or later. ( I hope you don't use webspace as your only storage area for family photos for the future generations of your family. This would be nice to have for future generations of my family, in case, heaven forbid, Flickr is not around. Does anyone know if the caption and descriptions for photos/sets are available for download. I'm in the same boat, trying to figure out which one to use to store my family's archival photos. If you're interesting in learning about photography, or meeting people with similar photographic interests as yourself, or having your work seen by many many people, Flickr is definitely the better choice, in my opinion. I believe the main difference between Picasa's web albums and Flickr is the community aspect of things. Thanks for answering me on this one! Enjoy. ![]() I am in the process of making a decision on permanent using Flickr or Picasa to make my photos known online.Īre there any Flickr users out there that did go through a same process and now say: I choose Flickr 'above' Picasa, because.
